Help Is On The Way

There is something about fresh produce – straight from my garden that reminds me everything is going to be just fine – and delicious!

We decided to try to let our cucumbers climb this year instead of sprawl all over the ground – so far, so good. This was a perfectly tasty specimen!

We have tomatoes planted all over our yard, in flower beds, veggie beds and container varieties on the porch, but nothing is as perfect as an Ohio or Indiana tomatoe – JUICY too! I’m eager to try the one in the pot – the short stubby one – I’ve never tried this variety and it is supposed to work nicely for container gardens.

This is an ichiban eggplant. They are small and thin, but tender and great on the grill! I ate two of them last weekend. I simply brushed them with olive oil and added a little seasoned salt.

I have lots of bell peppers and hot peppers planted this year. I usually have good luck with the hot peppers, but sometimes my bell peppers are a little bitter. I’m gonna keep trying until I get it right!

This is the beginning of my broccoli. I also have cauliflower that looks just like it at this point. I have all these plants squooshed together, and I hope I don’t regret over-planting this gaseous beast.

Basil is also a staple. I wish it was a perennial -all of those are taking off like weeds, but all the herbs make cooking in the summer delightful. I’m getting ready to make a caprese salad tonight with tomatoes, mozeralla, basil, balsamic vinegar and olive oil – can’t wait!

We even managed to squeeze in a few beets among the tomatoe plants. I cut them up on salads or roast them in the oven with a little olive oil and rosermary – tender and tasty!

  1. I am green with envy. (Bad pun intended.) My two sister-in-laws are both prolific gardeners. One is a big blogger about hers. I have purple thumbs. Today I went to the farmer’s market and got some tomatoes… yum.

  2. Beautiful garden. I’m having little luck this year due to my lack of experience and extra long winter. Winds blew over my trellises twice.

Your garden is inspiration for me to try, again. And I like what you said about the produce helps you feel everything will be okay.

  3. I love you garden and wish that I had that much room!

  4. I ate the first cherry tomato this evening and the cucumber was FANTASTIC!

  5. Beautiful Garden Melissa!! Hope you’re feeling better and soon!!
