And The Winner Is…

I woke up this morning completely delighted that I had no place to be. I love days like this, and I feel like there are very few of them anymore.

I planned to sit in my jammies, write a little and drink way too much coffee. I was going to do all three on my back deck this morning as I looked out over the lake, but I realized it was a bit too soggy and the ducks were a bit closer than they were the night before.

We must have gotten a little rain last night. I woke to geese – complete with a string of babies – SWIMMING through my backyard. The blue heron was also fishing somewhere between my swing and the fire pit. I guess that means roasting weanies is out of the question today. By the time I thought to grab a camera, the geese swam away and the blue heron fled after capturing the bass flopping around in the shallow water, but I still enjoyed the morning.

When I got online to post a comment or two on my favorite blogs I saw that I was the recipient of my very first blog award – yippee! I spent the next hour trying to figure out how to get the image linked to the side of my blog.

I have to admit that I’m totally inept at this sort of thing. Well, that’s not entirely true; I just don’t ever seem to find the time to take care of such things. I also have very few blogs linked along my page. I have a tendency to get online and get lost wandering around. If I could physically wander, I’m sure I would log many miles…the cyber ones just tend to leave my butt numb. 🙂
Anyway, the rule of the award is that I need to reveal seven things about myself that I haven’t talked about here and I need to forward the award on to seven other Beautiful Bloggers.

It occurred to me that I talk about a lot of shit here because I had a hard time coming up with seven “new” things, and those items made me squirm quite a bit, but true to the requirements of accepting the award, here’s my list:

1. My inability to vomit probably kept me on the planet when I was in the undiagnosed throws of an eating disorder as a teen. I nailed the binging part, but the purging… not so much. It wasn’t until years later when I talked to a counselor about my eating “issues” that I learned the missing link. Ironically, I learned the “how to’s” in a book about anorexia. Glad I didn’t have the info at 15.

2. I passed on a study abroad during college because I didn’t want to leave my boyfriend for a semester. Turns out I couldn’t get rid of him if I wanted to – we’ve been married for 23 years. Lyle, you rock brother, and I should have listened to you then (and probably now) when you said I should go for it!

3. I can touch my nose with my tongue. I’m not sure if that should push me toward the life of a circus performer or a starring role as a porn queen.

4. I abandoned words for a period of time in fear that I wasn’t good enough to use them. It’s only been within the last couple years that I felt comfortable calling myself a writer.

5. I developed a complete nonfiction proposal and rough draft of a book regarding my weight loss journey, and after a couple rejections, I dropped the ball – you don’t even know how much I squirmed to put that in writing here – even more than #4.

6. My dad passed on the strong stomach and aptitude of performing minor surgery on oneself and family members. I keep large quantities of rubbing alcohol and a sharp pair of tiny scissors on hand to remove skin tags on a moment’s notice. Gross yes, but also cost effective.

7. My bucket list includes a trip in a hot air balloon and a trip to Italy. I wonder if I can get them both accomplished at the same time.

Here are the blogs I frequent and the authors who also deserving of this award. I also bounce around a lot and just added some more blogs to my blogroll so check them all out.

Lynn’s Weigh
My Journey to Fit
Waisting Time
Hundred Ten Pounds
Bob and Penny’s Great Outdoor Adventure
On the Edge of Take Out

Let me know if there are any surprises in the list… how about you, care to share?

  1. I can touch MY tongue to MY nose too! We are so talented:)

  2. It made me laugh that you passed up a study abroad trip for your future hubby. I passed up a full ride to the school or journalism at FIU to go close to hom for my now husband. I don’t think I ever really told anybody that but it was obvious!

What an honest list. I think most people are afraid of number four, but we shouldn’t be. As for number five, keep writing and finish it– even if it is just for you.

  3. Thanks for the shout out! I like #5. I have been toying with the idea of writing a nonfiction book about my weight loss too but I keep stopping myself…

  4. Hey! It’s Thursday. Where are your thoughts! Miss you.

  5. I’m back from the dead – even if I’m a little queezy from the muscle relaxers.

  6. […] was a little while ago and rudely, I haven’t acknowledged it until now. So thank you to An Invisible Girl for thinking of me with the Beautiful Blogger […]
