Ranch Dressing

Using low-fat buttermilk really reduces the calories for this ranch dressing without sacrificing any of the taste. Pour it on and enjoy without guilt!

1 cup low-fat 1% buttermilk
2 Tbs. Regular Full-Fat Mayonnaise
2 Tbs. Fat-Free Sour Cream
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. onion powder
1/8 tsp. salt
½ tsp. basil
¼ tsp. thyme
1/8 tsp. dill
1/8 tsp. lemon or lime juice

Mix all ingredients with a whisk and let set for at least an hour to give the herbs a chance to blend. I made this with full-fat mayo, but I used fat-free sour cream. I tried it with fat-free mayo and fat-free sour cream. It was fine, but a little tangy. Using the full-fat mayo gives it that authentic ranch taste so I think it is worth it.

Nutrition Info: Two tablespoons of the salad dressing only has 28 calories and 2 grams of fat. If you use fat free mayo, it drops the calories to about five calories per serving (two tablespoons) so if you are going to eat a lot of it that may be a good option…To give you an idea – two tablespoons of full-fat mayo have twice the calories as an entire cup of the low-fat buttermilk!

Lowfat dip variation: Use the same spices, but reduce the buttermilk to 1/2 cup, delete regular mayo, add 1/4 cup FF mayo and 1/4 FF sourcream. For Weight Watchers out there the entire bowl is equal to 2 1/2 points if you make these substitutions.

I love having a creamy salad dressing that I can lather on a salad or baked potato. If you want to turn it into a veggie dip, add more fat free sour cream. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
